Alain Godon

About the artist

Alain Godon loves to observe, listen to and recount both the simple and the more grand stories of our life. He holds up a mirror which reflects the world around us and everyday life in realistic and resolutely optimistic tones.

1 November 1964: Alain Godon was born in Bourges.

19751982: After the death of his father, a doctor, in 1975, Alain Godon was brought up in the Pas-de-Calais by his uncle, an architect by profession and a friend of the Fine Arts. In this environment, the young man developed a passion for drawing, buildings and the urban landscape.

1985: At the age of 21, after enlisting in the army’s parachute regiment, he tried his luck in Paris, where he drew his first ephemeral chalk works on the ground of the pavements of the rue de Rivoli near the Louvre museum. He then moved on to England to pursue his art on the streets of Brighton: he is actually a precursor of the Street Art movement.

19861988: In 1986, he returned to France as a seasonal worker in both Courchevel and Saint-Tropez, but never lost his passion for painting.

19921994: In 1992, Alain Godon settled to work in Le Touquet Paris-Plage. His works were shown in 1994 at his first solo exhibition in the Palais de l’Europe. From this point onwards he abandoned his other work in order to focus on his art. Other exhibitions then followed in Paris, Lille …

1999: His first solo exhibition abroad was in Denver in the United States and then in Amsterdam.

2000: His first solo exhibition in a Museum of France was in Le Touquet Paris-Plage — « Les figures du siècle » (“Figures of the Century”).

2001: He exhibited his canvases at the National Assembly in Paris. His painting entitled « Jules Verne » now forms part of the national collection of the Museums of France.

2005: The artist was invited to live in Bali for two months. That same year, he started using another medium: sculpture.

2006: An important turn in his career came when Alain Godon changed style and started his architectural series, painting cities such as Paris, Amsterdam and New York. He used this same new technique to create his sculptures featuring symbolic buildings.

20072008: He had solo exhibitions in Le Touquet-Paris Plage, New York and Paris.

2009: He created the BildoReliefo (Esperanto for image in relief), which is a technique that fuses his plastic art with new digital technology. This new artistic approach was shown for first time at the “Pavillon des arts et du design » in the Tuileries in Paris and simultaneously in a gallery close to Central Park in New York. In the same year and with the aim of promoting Art by giving the help that he himself never received when starting out, Alain Godon conceived the Festival of Le Touquet. At this event, artists unknown to the greater public are invited to exhibit their work free of charge. The overall winner takes away a prize and a solo exhibition of their work in a cultural establishment.

20102011: Several solo exhibitions are organised for him in Miami and then in Paris.

2012: The exhibition “Extravaganza” at the Museum of Le Touquet Paris-Plage reunited over 120 of the artist’s work to celebrate the seaside resort’s centenary. Another solo exhibition was staged in Aspen, Colorado in the United States.

2013: The Milani gallery was opened in Le Touquet Paris-Plage and is entirely dedicated to showing Godon’s work. His works appear in many private and public art collections.

20142015: As a regular exhibitor in Miami, the artist was also appointed to illustrate the Miami Beach City Report, a major official city publication. Several exhibitions were organised for him in Los Angeles. Godon travelled to Tahiti in order to prepare for his forthcoming solo exhibition at the Matisse Departmental Museum and he took the entire year of 2016 as a sabbatical in preparation for this exhibition.

20172018: Exhibition Matisse-Godon: New York – Tahiti, “Architecture of Dreams” is presented at the Matisse Departmental Museum.
